Non possum vivi

Non possum vivi[1] (Latin for "(I) can't live"), also known as a wrong ball or stalemate[2] is a softlock where the player is unable to make progress due to having the wrong ball material with no access to a transformer. Non possum vivi can only be resolved by restarting the level; not even a suicider can solve the problem, since dying does not transform the ball. Non possum vivi is usually a serious flaw in the design of mapping (worse than Non possum mori ), but can generally be easily avoided by the map maker's careful inspection of the map logic.
Non possum vivi appears in both original levels and custom levels. In a broader sense, non possum vivi can refer to any softlock that cannot be resolved with a suicider.
Examples from original level
- In level 4, section 2, it is possible to gheto the last wooden transformer with a stone ball. However, the stone ball is unable to climb up the steep slope, and one would get into a non possum vivi.
- For level 13, section 4, if one enters with a stone ball, or changes into a stone ball at the end of the section and then dies, one would be stuck in a non possum vivi, as a paper ball is required to complete this section.
